Objectives
To teach students names of body parts
Preparation
Make a handout with a picture of a body and numbers pointing to each body part. Write out the names of the body parts, so students can match the number to the body part. Have fun when you draw the body -the students seem to be amused with it.
Procedure
- Warm-up
- Introduce the lesson and explain why learning body parts is fun and useful. Have students first start matching the body parts and numbers that they already know. Give them about 5-10 minutes to do this.
- Then go on and explain each body part, pointing it out on you or your JTE. While doing this, have students repeat the parts (they will have a hard time saying "stomach" or "thumb": help them with pronunciation)
- On the handout, have a section where they have to list 5 body parts on the face and parts on the arm
- After a thorough explanation of body parts, have students play body bingo, having them fill in their squares on their own with parts of the body
- As a follow-up lesson, I did a lesson on common illnesses. It was a good way to review the body parts
Note
Even my low, low-level students really enjoyed this lesson and concentrated really hard.
