This is an activity where the ALT uses the recording equipment in the language lab.
PROCEDURE:
Class begins and I say, “Good morning, how are you?” I then do a short warm up and introduction of the days’ material. Then the lesson begins by me reading and recording the article and the students replay the recording to answer the True False, Multiple Choice, Short Answer, and Dictation. I allow the students to use dictionaries or ask the JTE or myself questions. The only restriction is that they need to work by themselves; this is not a community project. About ten minutes prior to the end of class, we go over the answers collectively. Since I do not always get volunteers, I walk around the room and select students at random to participate.
The lesson is usually any combination of Fill in the Blank, True False, Multiple Choice, Short Answer, and/or a Dictation. The dictations can be any length you choose. I usually reread part of the original text as the dictation.
NOTES:
I have included an example lesson. Usually one of my JTEs will make a vocabulary sheet in Japanese and English, for the more difficult words.
WORKSHEETS/HANDOUTS:
All the workouts for the example lesson are here:
