Going to the Zoo
Kristin Ishii
| GRADE LEVEL: | SHS 1 & 3 |
| SKILLS: | Listening, reading, speaking |
| TIME: | 45 minutes |
| MATERIALS: | Worksheet |
| OBJECTIVES: | To identify zoo animals with various activities individually or in pairs |
PROCEDURE:
1. Handout the worksheet and explain Part I: Vocabulary. The students will write the names of each animal in Japanese and English. Then check the answers. (5-10 minutes)
2. Part II: True or False. Explain what true and false means and have the students answer which animal facts are true and which are false. Check answers at the end (1.T, 2.F, 3.T, 4.T, 5.F). (5-10 minutes)
3. Part III: Creative Dialogue. If the students are willing to work together they can make the dialogue in pairs, or just create one by themselves. Have them fill in the blanks and then practice. You can have the students say it in front of the class if they’re brave enough. (10-15 minutes)
4. Part IV: Crossword Puzzle. (10 minutes)
NOTES:
My students are very low level so they like to do worksheet activities individually. For the dialogue I just had them fill it in by themselves and that was it, they are too shy to say it in front of the class. The time it takes to finish the worksheet depends on how fast your students work. You can add more facts to make it longer or more student participation.
