Practicing Grammar Points
| MATERIALS: | 3 or 4 advertisements from English magazines, story starters for each advertisement, worksheet explaining activity in English and space for their writing |
| OBJECTIVE: | To experience using new grammar points in a creative fun way |
This activity is good at the end of a class to practice what they just learned or can be used as a review for what they learned in a previous class.
- Explain activity to the class.
- Show the advertisement to the class and begin telling them the starter for the story. Introduce who the people are in the picture and what they are doing.
- After the 3 sentence story starter, ask a question for the students to create the answer. Have the questions be about the situation you just explained.
- Give them a few minutes between each story.
- Ask for volunteers to read their stories a loud.
English to English Dictionary Listening Exercise
| MATERIALS: | Worksheet, list of words with spaces for students to write the definitions |
| OBJECTIVE: | To get students to think about meanings of works using English (very useful when outside of the Japanese speaking society.) |
- Make a list of English words that your students understand, easy ones would be Job titles, Sports, Place Names, Famous People, ETC.
- At random read a definition for each of the words.
- Students must choose which word you are describing and write down the definition (dictation).
Example: English: Your favorite subject in the entire world!
