Yet Another Zombie Game

Michael Hominick

GRADE LEVEL: ES 1-3
SKILLS: Speaking, Listening (can be customized)
TIME: 10-15 minutes
MATERIALS: Nothing (can be customized to use other materials)

OBJECTIVES:

To engage an entire class in practice of a grammar point simultaneously (read: with everyone actively practicing 95% of the time)

PROCEDURE:

The students are exposed to a grammar pattern or conversational construct. Length of the dialog is unimportant to the activity. All students begin as humans, and are thus standing up. They make pairs with other humans and practice the dialogue. After a single completion of the dialogue, the pair of students will janken/rock-paper-scissors. The winner remains a human, and will continue the game by finding another human and repeating the process. The loser becomes a zombie, and must crawl along the ground. Zombies can only make pairs with other zombies. Once a pair of zombies is made, the interaction is the same. However, the zombie that wins the janken can stand up and return to the world of humans, while the loser must remain a zombie.
