| GRADE LEVEL: | Any JHS or SHS |
| SKILLS: | Speaking, Writing, Reading |
| TIME: | ~10 minutes |
| MATERIALS: | Timer |
OBJECTIVES:
- To get students ready for English class
- To review previously learned language
PROCEDURE:
The Bomb Game:
Set a timer with an alarm for 1-2 minutes then place it in a pencil case and pass to a student. The “bomb” has to make its way around the classroom. When a student is handed the “bomb” they must say an English word / shiritori style / categories / sentence / anything really, just adjust it to the grade you are teaching. The student holding the “bomb” when it explodes has to answer a question from the ALT / do something silly etc.
Crossword Game:
Write a long English word on the blackboard and set a timer for 4-5 minutes. Each student has to come up to the blackboard and write a word that fits like it would in a crossword. The student holding the chalk when the timer goes off is the loser OR students can work in two teams and the team with the most words when the timer goes off is the winner.
We used this game as an introduction activity in our Eikaiwa class, then we gave them real crosswords, then they made their own which we all did the next lesson. It worked well.
