OBJECTIVES:
1. To practice listening skills.
2. Review grammar.
PROCEDURE:
1. First think of 5 categories. I use Food, Sports, Pop Culture (the students really like this one), Q&A, and Please Guess. Think of 5 questions for each category. Then rank the questions in order of difficulty from 10 points to 50 points.
2. Here are some questions that I’ve used
Food:
10pts Q: What food does Doraemon like the best?
A: He likes Dorayaki the best.
50pts Q: What country does Bi Bim Bap come from?
A: It comes from Korea.
Sports:
10pts Q: What sport does (insert teacher’s name here) coach?
A: (teacher’s name) coaches (sport).
50pts Q: What is the most popular game in the world?
A: The most popular game in the world is soccer.
Pop Culture:
10pts Q: Who is this man (I hold up a picture of HG)?
A: It’s HG.
50pts Q: What group/band sang the song “Sailing Day” in the movie One Piece?
A: Bump of Chicken sang the song “Sailing Day”.
Q&A:
I usually use questions related to the textbook.
Please Guess:
Describe something and the students have to guess what it is.
3. Then make a game board on either the chalkboard or a big piece of paper. Write the categories and the point values. Explain what each category is and have the students make lunch groups.
4. Have the students decide who will answer the first, who will answer second and so on. This is to avoid having the same student answer all the questions. The answer must be given in complete sentences.
5. The group that answers correctly gets the points and gets to choose the next category.
6. Go until all the questions have been answered or until you run out of time. Calculate the scores and see which group is the winner.
