Finish My Question
Adam Vaught
| GRADE LEVEL: | JHS 1-3 |
| SKILLS: | Writing, Speaking, Listening, Reading |
| TIME: | Flexible depending on how many questions you prepare; ten minutes – entire class |
| MATERIALS: | Worksheet with the first half of questions written on it and space below for answers |
| OBJECTIVES: | Review grammar points in a slightly creative way |
PROCEDURE:
1. Prepare a worksheet with questions sentences that are incomplete, for example (for second grade) “What are you…?” or “Do you have to…?”
2. The students start by completing the questions (students that finish early are encouraged to help students who are struggling).
3. Next, students’ interview each other asking these questions and recording their friend’s answers (every question must be answered by a different student). Once finished, students return to their seats.
4. Everyone stands up and the ALT picks students at random to janken with. First student to lose must read one of their questions, the name of who answered it, and what their answer was. Once finished that student sits down and the student whose answer was previously read does the same until all students have read a question and an answer. The ALT points out good questions and answers and offers alternates.
NOTES:
I like this because I find it is a good way to practice a new grammar point but also throw in some review of old ones, which the book rarely does. It’s also great at the end of the year to review the various grammar points in one lesson. The last step where the kids report their questions and answers can be scrapped, but I find it usually goes quite fast and as long as you can make a creative way to choose who goes next the kids will remain interested
