Wally’s Present Continuous Tense Practice
Roz Currie
| GRADE LEVEL: | JHS 1-3 |
| SKILLS: | Speaking/Listening |
| TIME: | 5-10 minutes |
| MATERIALS: | Worksheets A and B (next page) |
| OBJECTIVES: | A very quick review exercise of the present continuous tense, i.e. I’m walking, a horse eating hay etc |
PROCEDURE:
1. Give out the worksheets so each pair has one sheet A and one sheet B.
2. Explain the activity in English. They should get the idea pretty quickly. The students will take it in turns to read a statement and their partner must find the person/people/bear doing that activity. Make it a race so the first to finish get stickers or glory.
3. In my lowest level class I did have to point out the vocabulary at the top of the page as no one noticed it.
NOTES:
This was intended for my Sannensei, but I think the idea is easily transferred to other years.
Best to do it at the END of a lesson rather than as a warm up to stop them searching for Wally for the next hour. I then got complaints that students were still playing throughout their next lesson (Japanese)!
