| GRADE LEVEL: | ES 5-6, JHS 2 (NH pp.64-5z) |
| SKILLS: | Speaking and Listening |
| TIME: | 25 minutes |
| MATERIALS: | None |
| YEAR: | 2007 |
OBJECTIVES:
1. To practice giving and following directions
PROCEDURE:
1. Warm-up:
Simon Says (up, down, forward, back, right, left). Quickly review simple directions by playing a quick game of Simon Says. You can add a challenge by playing the “do as I say and not as I do” twist. The children really enjoy it (5 minutes)
2. Introduce the new vocabulary:
If the students are not already familiar with the key sentences, it’s important to go over them and practice pronunciation (5 minutes)
Key Sentences:
Go straight/forward/back
Turn right/left
Stop
3. Blind Man’s Walk:
In pairs, have one student wear a blindfold. Each pair picks a starting place around the classroom. One partner stays there while the other goes to the opposite side of the room. On “go!” the partner who is not blindfolded must guide their “blind” friend to the other side of the room without any mishaps or collisions. Once they have reached the other side, the partners switch (15 minutes)
NOTES:
The game is a little safer if you stress that the students move at a snail’s pace
The game gets really loud but the kids just love it
It’s even more enjoyable if the ALT or teacher gets involved
