Akira plays soccer
Jacob Chmielewski
| GRADE LEVEL: | JHS 1st year |
| SKILLS: | Speaking, Listening |
| TIME: | ~25 minutes |
| MATERIALS: | Worksheet |
| OBJECTIVES: | To practice third person verbs without using the question form |
PROCEDURE:
1. Copy the worksheet, but use some white out and a pen (or edit the file) to make nine different versions. Each one should give the name of only one of the children. Make up the names yourself.
2. Each student receives one of the nine different worksheets. Tell them not to show their worksheets to their classmates.
3. Let the students roam about the room. When they find someone to play with, one of the students (they can janken if you don’t mind the noise) tells the other about their child and the other listens. Things the child does are marked with an ‘O’ and things they don’t do are marked with an ‘X’. For instance, if the student has Aya’s name written on their sheet, the student would say, “Aya doesn’t play soccer. Aya uses a computer. Aya watches TV,” etc in order to the end of the line. The student listening would hopefully then be able to figure out which child Aya is and write her name under the appropriate picture.
4. Students try to discover the names of as many children as possible before time runs out. Then announce the correct answers to the class so they can see how well they did.
NOTES:
Adjust the difficulty of this activity to the level of your students, time restraints, and the size of the class. Nine faces on the worksheet might be a bit overwhelming for some students. Also, it’s probably not a good idea to use names the students don’t know how to pronounce.
